Shade Selection:
How to get the correct shade size and style for a given lamp.

The selection of a shade is a very personal decision. A shade can change the entire look of a lamp. You can update a lamp in a matter of minutes, changing only the shade. In order to streamline the plethora of options, we will deal with function. For example, if you are using the lamp for nighttime reading, then you would not need a lot of light, thus you would probably have a smaller lamp and in turn a smaller light bulb, which a smaller shade can be used for.

There are two basic types of lampshades: hardback and silk. A hardback has plastic on the inside of the shade and material on the outside - silk, linen, or some other fabric. Your lamp's style and room décor will help you determine the type of shade that is best.
